What is Thinking mode?

update Updated Dec 2025
folder AI & Models

Overview

Thinking mode uses OpenAI o1-class models that reason step-by-step before producing a final answer. You see the AI's "chain of thought" — its reasoning process — before the conclusion.

When to use it

  • Complex math or physics problems
  • Logic puzzles and riddles
  • Multi-step coding challenges
  • Questions requiring careful nuance

When NOT to use it

Thinking mode is slower than Smart. Don't use it for simple questions, quick lookups, or casual conversation — Smart is better there.

Availability

Available on Pro and Advanced plans. Select it from the model dropdown in the chat input bar.
